Follow the world bike tour

On September 17 at the Space 2009 International Trade Fair in Rennes, France, Martine Brouwer and Arnaud Baranger started an extraordinary cycling tour around the world. Within a time span of one year, they will travel through 18 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Oceania and South America in order to meet a host of dairy business players. Companies that are active in the dairy sector will support the duo from beginning to end in this mentally challenging and sportive adventure and Lely is among those supporters.

Martine (age 29) was a dairy advisor in France after having worked for Lely. Arnaud (age 28) was manager of Agrigam, an ArcelorMittal division specialized in steel roofing and cladding solutions for livestock housing.

You can find more information on the project on the dedicated website of the cyclists: www.suivez-nous.fr

Along the small roads we are surrounded by beautiful hills, peaceful rivers, authentic villages and fantastic castles. Our direction is towards Pluhuv Zdar, with small farmer villages counting numerous fishing lakes, in the South of the country next to Sobeslav.
We leave Odessa, a southern town in the Ukraine, by boat and cross the Black sea to Turkey. Before reaching Istanbul we cruise between the two continents: Asia and Europe.
On Tuesday, May 11, we have quite a journey to look forward too: 1,200 km straight to the south. We are planning on reaching Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, in 12 days.
Returning from India and arriving in Moscow, our thick sweaters come in handy to bridge a temperature difference of 35 degrees…
Anyway, India it is. Welcome to a country where breathtakingly large forts and remarkably elegant palaces break the sombre mood of sprawling sands and rugged terrain.
And that’s how we reach Hangzhou, located in the northern Zhejiang province, 180 kilometres southwest of Shanghai.
While cycling down the coast to Melbourne we certainly weren’t bored: heaps of multicolour parrots, amazing forests, wild beaches, grazing cows and hopping kangaroos joined us along the way.
“Surrounded by some of New Zealand’s most majestic areas with the towering peaks of the Remarkables as a backdrop, our cycling journey to the farm was a truly memorable experience,” our bikers reveal.
“We discover the tropical climate through the humid and hot breeze when we cycle along the coast in the direction of São Paulo. We are impressed by the wild and rich nature of this immense country we travel through.”
Morocco, with its generally temperate Mediterranean climate, is endowed with numerous exploitable resources and has approximately 85,000 square km of arable land.
Ten days after the start of their world tour by bike, Martine and Arnaud have left France behind and entered Spain.
